Jackson Middle School (JMS) is a Leonard Bernstein School of Artful Learning, located in Portland, Oregon. Being a Bernstein school means that arts are used across the curriculum and the school is committed to a high quality of professional training in the arts. We are fortunate to have a teacher who focuses solely on choir. Director Melinda Murdock has been teaching and directing choirs at JMS for over 15 years.
JMS has several choirs:
Sixth grade choir, offered as a class
Concert choir (for seventh and eighth grades)
Ensemble (auditioned, select choir for seventh and eighth grades).
Our ensemble choir performs and competes nationally. Tours have included Disney and the Choral Festival of Gold in Nashville, TN.
The choirs perform throughout the year, both in the school and at other locations. Mahroo Hamedani is our accompanist.
